How do I Install MaintenanceGuy ?

MaintenanceGuy is a powerful internet-based system that can be accessed from most Microsoft Windows PCs**. It is built using the Microsoft .NET technology - which brings you the power of a desktop application over the internet. The installation will check to see if you have .NET installed, and if not will install for you. After .NET is installed all that is required for MaintenanceGuy, is a one time installation of security files on any pc you are using to access the software. After this, you simply login to the application by clicking on the MG icon on your desktop.

Software Installation Instructions

  1. Ensure that your computer meets all minimum requirements

  2. Ensure that you have administrative security rights to your computer.

  3. Ensure that you have the latest Microsoft Windows updates and Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 or above. http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp (Optional - do if installation fails)

  4. Download the MaintenanceGuy installation files by clicking here and then choose Open.

    • Click Setup - If it is determined that your computer doesn't have the latest version of Microsofts .NET Framework, you will be propted to intall this first. (Follow the on screen prompts for installation.)

    • If you are required to install Microsofts .NET Framework, you MUST repeat the installation to install the MaintenanceGuy Program.

  5. If you have been emailed a production Username and Password you can access the logon button by the new MG icon on your desktop.

**Note: - Windows95 and Windows Millennium edition are not supported for the MaintenanceGuy application.

Check what is typed in the "Address" field at the top of your web browser. It needs to be https://secure.maintenanceguy.com note that there is an "s" following the "http" which indicates you are moving to a secure website.

I have downloaded and installed the MaintenanceGuy files, and I can access https://secure.maintenanceguy.com . However, when I click on the "MaintenanceGuy Login.." button, I get an "error on page" message.

Check the security settings in Internet Explorer. Go to "tools" pulldown menu. Choose "internet options" Go to the "Advanced" tab. Scroll down to "Security". Make sure that the box for "Do not save encrypted files to disk" is NOT checked.

I have installed the MaintenanceGuy files, and then run the windows update, but I still can't access the MaintenanceGuy Databases

You must upgrade windows BEFORE doing the MaintenanceGuy installation, otherwise windows will overwrite the security files, causing an access problem.

Why do I need administrative rights to install MaintenanceGuy ?

Administrative rights are required to install new programs on a computer.  The MaintenanceGuy installation process installs two programs on each local machine.  One is the Microsoft .NET framework, which is required to run MaintenanceGuy, which is a Microsoft .NET based application.  The second program is MaintenanceGuy.exe  The installation program also adds two .dll files to the Windows directory that are required by Crystal Reports, the third party printing program used by MaintenenceGuy.
